Let’s talk about self-sabotage and what role it plays regularly in the lives of Musicians and Artists.
First, let me explain what I mean when I reference self-sabotage, I came up with a number of different terms when I first sat down to write this episode. Self-Assault was another term that I thought accurately described what I wanted to talk about today.
What I mean when I talk about self-sabotage is both internal and external negative self-talk and behaviour! Now I also want to preface this by saying that negative emotions, in general, are normal. They are okay and they are there for a reason.
I really want to make this a HUGE point.
Most self-sabotage starts with negative emotions that are being resisted.
I want to make a BIG differentiation between negative emotions (which I believe are normal and necessary and good) and negative emotions that are being strongly resisted. When you resist emotions it causes you to start self-sabotaging in a way that is very destructive. For e.g. if you are having negative emotions that are surrounding “I’m not good enough, I’m not successful enough.” and that’s wrong, I need to be good enough, I need to be more successful, and because you are in struggle with that emotion and you’re not sitting with it and feeling it and processing it you go into a place where you beat on yourself emotionally and some physically, where you don’t succeed because you believe you are not good enough.
In this podcast I cover the 3 REASONS you might be self-sabotaging, and then a 3 STEP process to change it. The ACP process is mine, take it, use and change your thoughts and habits.
Enjoy!
